overview

Key Learning Objectives

  • Appreciate the intent of AS4024
  • Understand the legal obligations for conveyor designers and conveyor owners
  • Review the important differences between AS1755 – 1986 and AS1755 – 2000
  • Discuss examples of interpretation for access, emergency stops, guarding and signage
  • Recognise “grey” areas in AS4024 that could impact your performance
  • Review relevant conveyor incident and fatality statistics
  • Observe industry best practice safety solutions for high risk areas

About the Course

This course provides participants with a comprehensive review of the AS4024 standard and what conveyor designers and conveyor plant owners need to know about safety systems for their conveyors.

The standard is broken up into easy to understand sections. Each section is explained using examples from sites and direct extracts from AS4024. The primary focus is on troughed belt conveyors.

Safety systems to control high risk potential, such as conveyor emergency stops and conveyor guarding, are presented in the most detail. Andrew uses his background in conveyor condition monitoring and design to discuss different methods of guard design to suit the increasingly strict industrial safety requirements.

The course participant will learn about the importance of correct interpretation of AS4024 in the design phase of a conveyor project, but also learn ways to efficiently implement safety improvements to existing conveyor installations.

This 1-day course will provide the participant with a thorough working knowledge of the safety requirements of AS4024, and allow them to review the current safety levels for their conveyor designs or conveyor plant.
