About the Course

Safety is always a critical issue in every industry. It is especially important in the offshore oil and gas industry because it involves not only the handling of very large inventories of flammable materials, but facilities are often remote and isolated.

Offshore safety is covered by various ranges of legislation. It is important to understand the different approaches, how they overlap, and how they can be implemented. This will be summarised during the course. It is crucial that management and operators are committed to good safety practice and “do the right thing”.

The course reviews some of the hazard, risk analysis and risk assessment techniques, along with best practice approaches to safety and risk. It uses past safety incidents to better illustrate and examine the issues. Safety incidents often involve human factors; the role of people must therefore be understood. In addition the increasingly important environmental and security issues will be examined.

Although this is a fundamental overview for managers and non-safety staff, and is comprehensive, it should not be substituted for basic training and accreditation in safety.
