About the Course

This one-day course will provide new or relatively new entrants into the coal industry with a clear understanding of the fundamentals, workings and components of coal mining, and its application in the Australian and global industry.

You will learn about aspects of coal mining ranging from exploration methods, surface mining and underground mining methods, mine planning, processing, treatment and resource estimation.

Participants will learn about the technical aspects of coal mining ranging from exploration methods, geology, resource estimation, surface and underground mining methods to mine planning, mining methods and mine closures.

You will also gain a sound understanding for the terminology used within the industry and gain knowledge of the factors that influence the industry and the personnel you interact with on a day-to day basis.

Who Will Benefit

This course is designed for people who are new to the coal industry and have limited background experience with coal

For example:

  • Commercial people, management, people moving from other industries into the coal industry
  • Administration roles within coal and related companies
  • People who do business with coal related companies
  • Regulators, policy, investors, financiers, lawyers and analysts of coal projects
  • University graduates/technicians/tradespeople entering the coal industry
  • Companies on the fringe of the coal industry who need a basic understanding
